In an outrageous move that defies common sense and national security, President Joe Biden has announced a new policy to shield undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens from deportation. This absurd decision would protect about 500,000 immigrants who have entered and stayed in our country illegally. Biden’s latest executive action is a blatant election-year ploy, pandering to Latino voters while ignoring the real consequences for American citizens.
Framing this policy as a "commonsense fix" to keep families together is a farce. It’s nothing more than a desperate attempt to secure votes in crucial battleground states. The White House’s claim that this action will only benefit those who are "paying taxes and contributing to our country" is laughable. This policy rewards lawbreakers and undermines the integrity of our immigration system, sending a clear message: If you can break the law and stay long enough, you’ll eventually be rewarded.
What’s even more appalling is the leniency being shown to those who should be deported for serious crimes. Just this week, MSNBC host Joy Reid and Representative Pramila Jayapal (D., Wash.) downplayed the horrific crime of an illegal immigrant raping a minor in New York City. Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, a 25-year-old Ecuadorian national, bound, gagged, and raped a 13-year-old girl in a Queens park. This monster had previously been ordered to leave the U.S. but remained due to lax enforcement of immigration laws.
During a live television appearance, Reid and Jayapal mocked the media coverage of this heinous crime, with Reid suggesting that conservative media’s focus on illegal immigration is part of the problem. Jayapal claimed that concerns over illegal immigration are mere "fear-mongering." This dismissive attitude towards serious crimes committed by illegal immigrants is a disgrace and highlights the left’s complete disregard for the safety of American citizens.
Former President Donald Trump, speaking at a campaign rally in Wisconsin, rightly blasted Biden's executive action. He vowed to "rip up and throw out" this policy if re-elected, calling it one of Biden’s most destructive moves yet. Trump highlighted the absurdity of granting immediate green cards and fast-tracking citizenship for those who have broken our laws. This isn’t about keeping families together; it’s about fundamentally transforming our electorate and undermining the rule of law.
House Speaker Mike Johnson also condemned the administration's announcement, calling it "granting amnesty to hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens." He warned that this policy would "incentivize more illegal immigration and endanger Americans." This is not fear-mongering; it’s a realistic assessment of the consequences of such a reckless policy.
The Biden administration insists that it has been tough on unlawful border crossings and has worked to dismantle people-smuggling networks. Yet, this new policy undermines any claim of being tough on illegal immigration. By allowing undocumented spouses to stay and apply for permanent residency, Biden is effectively encouraging more illegal crossings.
The plan also includes provisions for undocumented immigrants to obtain work permits and for DACA recipients with higher education degrees to receive work visas more quickly. This is yet another example of prioritizing the needs of illegal immigrants over those of American citizens.
The hypocrisy is staggering. While Biden claims to be securing the border, his administration is simultaneously opening it wider. Just a few weeks ago, he announced restrictions on asylum seekers, authorizing Customs and Border Protection to close the border when daily crossings surpass 2,500. Yet now, he’s rolling out the welcome mat for 500,000 undocumented spouses, along with 50,000 non-citizen children.
This policy is expected to face legal challenges, but the damage it has already done is clear. It sends a message to the world that the U.S. is not serious about enforcing its immigration laws. It emboldens those who wish to exploit our system and puts American lives at risk.
